Gurpal Singh - Principal Lawyer

Gurpal Singh is a highly accomplished Solicitor and Barrister with over 33 years of professional legal experience spanning across different countries.

Born in Punjab, India, Gurpal Singh completed his tertiary education at Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. Gurpal graduated with a Bachelor of Economics and Political Science (1989) and a Bachelor of Laws (1992) before stepping into his role as an Advocate (barrister and solicitor) at the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh and the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi (1992).

Gurpal expanded the scope of his professional practice to include the area(s) of constitutional law, commercial and corporate law, family law, criminal law, private international law, and writ jurisdiction. Gurpal extensively advised small to mid-tier companies and high-net-worth individuals in the area(s) of due diligence, advocacy, and complex corporate litigation. Gurpal has also handled commercial transactions of significant value in Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, and Canada.

From 2007 to mid-2012, Gurpal taught commercial law to undergraduate students at La Trobe University. Gurpal also tutored and lectured on company and finance law to post-graduate accounting students at La Trobe University between 2009 and 2012.

In 2010, Gurpal established Saundh, Singh & Smith Lawyers at Coburg and the Melbourne CBD. Gurpal advises clients on a wide range of complex legal matters with clarity, passion, and precision, and provides each client with the necessary support to manage their file from initial consultation, litigation, and to final resolution.

Gurpal has successfully represented clients from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds across Australia. Gurpal’s extensive experience allows him to approach every matter with cultural sensitivity and with a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals, families, communities, and corporate entities.

Gurpal is married and lives with his wife and son. Gurpal is also a pet-parent who shares a great emotional bond with Golu, a German Spitz. As a committed and lifelong Sikh, Gurpal is guided by the values of his faith – discipline, honesty, and equality. These values form the foundation of his advocacy.

Azalea Zhang - Solicitor

Azalea joined Saundh, Singh & Smith Lawyers in early 2024 before she was admitted to the legal profession in July 2024.

Azalea began her journey as a legal practitioner by assisting the principal lawyer with drafting court documents and correspondence, participating in client meetings, taking file notes, and understanding clients’ legal issues. By working closely with the principal lawyer, various barristers who are engaged for the preparation of the cases, and a diverse range of clients, Azalea has steadily developed her legal skills, which have been essential for her to build a strong foundation in critical thinking and practical problem-solving.

Azalea has a great attention to detail and is passionate about delivering client-focused legal outcomes in an efficient and timely manner, even in high-pressure situations. Azalea works with a strong sense of ethical responsibility and adheres strictly to confidentiality standards. Azalea is committed towards developing a good rapport with the clients by being transparent in communication and prioritising respect, patience, and courtesy. As a fluent Mandarin speaker, Azalea has provided crucial support for clients with a Chinese background by bridging legal understanding with cultural insight.

Beyond legal practice, Azalea spends time with her cat named Ellie, which she adopted from the shelter. Ellie amused Azalea by remaining hidden in the closet for 22 hours.

Namira Rahman - Paralegal

Namira joined Saundh, Singh & Smith Lawyers as a paralegal in mid-2024.

Namira is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts at Monash University, majoring in Media and Communications with a minor in International Relations. Namira is expected to graduate in 2027.

Namira supports the principal lawyer and solicitor(s) by carrying out a range of paralegal duties. In her role, Namira attends to clients, assists in the drafting of correspondence(s) and court document(s), contributes to legal research, prepares disclosure materials, and manages a variety of administrative tasks, including file management and contacting the court in respect of urgent client requirements in pending cases. Since joining the firm, Namira has advanced her skills and regularly contributes to an array of legal matters, with a particular emphasis on family law, commercial law and criminal law. She is eager to continue exploring the full scope of legal practice.

Beyond her role as a paralegal, Namira has a passion for public speaking and teaches English and Literature to VCE students. These experiences have shaped her ability to analyse arguments, present complex ideas persuasively, and engage thoughtfully with diverse cultures and perspectives.

Devpratim Singh - Paralegal

Devpratim began his path in law as a paralegal at Saundh, Singh & Smith Lawyers in 2025. He assists with legal work through case support and handling administrative tasks.

Devpratim holds a bachelor’s degree with distinction in Criminology (major) and Cybercrime (minor) from Monash University. He is presently pursuing a Juris Doctor at Monash University, seeking to enhance his understanding and knowledge of cyber threats with legal insight. He has a special interest in Jurisprudence and Conflict of Laws.

Along with his studies, Devpratim likes DIY hobbies such as gardening and woodcarving that enrich his daily life while also improving his attention to detail and patience.

Devpratim enjoys spending precious time with his pet dog, Golu.
